Surface mirror coating

2019-05-17

With the development of science and technology, optical thin film technology has been widely used in various fields from national defense to people's livelihood, and has become one of the most important aspects in the high-tech field. Surface reflector as an optical thin film is no exception. For example, the large screen projection wall monitoring system used in military transportation, high quality back projection color TV sets in household appliances industry, projectors and photocopiers in the field of science and education, etc., all have the use of high quality surface reflectors.

Surface reflector is a kind of metal with high reflectivity deposited on the surface of glass (or metal, organic or other materials) by vacuum coating technology, which makes it have high reflectivity. It overcomes many shortcomings of the back mirror commonly used.

Aluminum or silver are selected as the reflective functional materials of surface mirrors. However, the adhesion between them and glass matrix is poor. In order to make the surface reflector have enough high reflectivity, the thickness of metal reflective film ranges from 500 to 1500A or thicker. If the metal film of the surface reflector is exposed to air for a long time, the oxide will form on its surface, which will cause the decline of the optical properties of the film and reduce the reflectivity, especially the performance of the silver film. The reflectivity of aluminum film decreases with the increase of time, and at the initial stage of oxide formation on its surface. Aluminum oxidation is completed after a period of time (about a month). Aluminum film can keep about 89% of the original reflectance when it is placed in normal atmosphere for a long time. For this reason, in order to make the metal surface reflector withstand chemical and climatic effects, and to withstand certain mechanical wear, a transparent protective coating, such as SiO, TiO, Al2O3, should be coated on the same cycle of metal reflection coating deposition. The thickness of the protective coating is about 500-1200 A.

Because a protective film is deposited on the metal film, the reflectivity of the metal film will be reduced to the minimum. An antireflective film, such as MgF2, can be deposited on the protective film. Therefore, the film system of the surface reflector is as follows: matrix, transition layer, reflective layer, protective layer and antireflective layer.

ATS Optical is a professional manufacturer of vacuum coating materials. Its SiO, TiO, AI2O3, etc. are usually used for surface mirror coating. The size can be customized according to customer's requirements. Welcome to consult and order!
